In April 2026, B&Q increased its national base rate for Customer Advisors to £13.10 per hour. This sits comfortably above the National Living Wage (£12.71), reflecting the company's commitment to competitive retail pay.

Customer Advisor (National)£13.10 / hr
Customer Advisor (London)£14.44 / hr

How to Access Your B&Q Payslip (Workday)

B&Q, like many large retailers, has completely phased out paper payslips. All of your HR information, holiday booking, and payslips are hosted on Workday.

New Starter Warning:

If you have just joined B&Q, it can sometimes take 2 to 4 weeks for your Workday login to be fully activated. Because of this delay, your store manager may print out a paper copy of your very first payslip for you.

Kingfisher SAYE Share Scheme — Are B&Q Colleagues Eligible?

B&Q is owned by the Kingfisher Group (which also owns Screwfix). Because Kingfisher is a publicly listed company on the London Stock Exchange, eligible B&Q colleagues are often invited to join the SAYE (Save As You Earn) sharesave scheme.

  • You can choose to save a set amount directly from your net pay each month for 3 to 5 years.
  • At the end of the period, you have the option to buy Kingfisher shares at a heavily discounted price (set at the start of the scheme).
  • If the share price has dropped, you simply take your cash savings back. It is practically risk-free.
  • These deductions will appear on your payslip after tax has been calculated.

B&Q Colleague Discount — 20% Tax-Free

One of the most popular perks of working at B&Q is the 20% colleague discount on in-store and online purchases (with some exclusions).

Under HMRC rules, in-store discounts that don't cost the employer money to provide are exempt from tax. This means your 20% discount is not a "Benefit in Kind" (BIK), so you don't pay any tax on your savings, and it will never appear as a deduction on your Workday payslip.

B&Q Pension — Auto-Enrolment Details

As legally required, B&Q operates an auto-enrolment workplace pension scheme. You will contribute 5% of your qualifying earnings, and B&Q will contribute 3%.

The deduction is only calculated on your "qualifying earnings" (anything you earn between £6,240 and £50,270). If you work part-time and earn under £6,240 a year, you will not be auto-enrolled or have pension deductions taken automatically.

B&Q vs IKEA vs Screwfix — Pay Comparison 2026

If you work in the home improvement or DIY sector, how does B&Q's £13.10/hr compare to its rivals?

  • IKEA: £13.45/hr (View Guide)
  • B&Q: £13.10/hr
  • Screwfix (Kingfisher sister brand): Typically matches B&Q at £13.10/hr
  • National Living Wage: £12.71/hr
