How Aviation Pay Works in the UK
Standard online tax calculators fail for airline staff because they assume your entire salary is taxable. In aviation, your pay is split into two distinct buckets:
- Taxable Income: This includes your Basic Salary and your hourly Flight Duty Pay (Sector Pay). HMRC takes Income Tax and National Insurance from this pot.
- Tax-Free Income: This includes your downroute allowances (Per Diems) given to you for meals and subsistence while staying in hotels abroad. You keep 100% of this money.
