Line-by-line breakdown — 2026/27
✅ Tax Code: 1257L
Standard code. You receive the full £12,570 personal allowance — the first £12,570 you earn this year is tax-free. This is correct for most UK employees with one job and no untaxed income.
💼 Your employer also pays NI: On top of your £156.16 deduction, your employer pays their own separate NI contribution (13.8% above the Secondary Threshold of £9,100/yr). This does not come out of your pay.
How to View Your Payslip (Partner Intranet)
The John Lewis Partnership uses Workday integrated with the Partner Intranet. Here is how to access your payslip:
- Go to the official Partner Intranet (via personal device or in-store computer).
- Log in using your Partner number and your password.
- Open the Workday app and navigate to the Pay section.
- Here you can view your current and previous payslips, as well as your P60s.
Common Waitrose Payslip Items
Partnership Bonus
If the company hits its profit targets, you will receive a Partnership Bonus in March. This is calculated as a percentage of your earnings for the year. This bonus is subject to standard Income Tax and National Insurance deductions.
Sunday & Bank Holiday Premiums
Depending on when your contract was signed, you may receive premium pay for working Sundays or Bank Holidays. This appears as a separate line item (e.g., 'Bank Hol Premium') and increases your gross pay.
Partnership Pension Contribution
Waitrose operates a generous pension scheme. You will see your contribution (usually a percentage of your salary) deducted from your gross pay. The Partnership also contributes on your behalf, which is great for your retirement but does not deduct from your net pay.
Subsidy / Partner Dining
If you use the subsidised Partner dining room and pay via payroll deduction, you will see a 'Dining Room' or 'Subsidy' deduction on your payslip representing the food you purchased during the month.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I view my Waitrose payslip online?
Waitrose and John Lewis Partners must log in to the Partner Intranet (or Workday) using their Partner number and password. From there, navigate to the Pay section to view and download your electronic payslips.
When is payday for Waitrose Partners?
Waitrose Partners are typically paid every four weeks on a Friday, though some management roles are paid monthly. Your payslip is usually uploaded to the intranet a few days before payday.
How does the Partnership Bonus work?
Because Waitrose is part of the John Lewis Partnership, eligible Partners receive an annual bonus based on the company's profits. This is paid as a percentage of your annual salary and appears as a specific line on your March payslip.
Is the Waitrose discount taxable?
Your Partner discount (25% at John Lewis, 20% at Waitrose) is not usually taxable unless you abuse it or exceed certain massive HMRC limits for benefits-in-kind. For normal grocery shopping, it is completely tax-free.
Why is my Waitrose pay lower than expected?
If your pay is short, it is usually because you missed a clock-in punch, took unpaid leave, or were placed on emergency tax (BR or 0T code). Check your tax code on your payslip and contact your line manager to fix missed punches.
