Working for a cooperative is different from working for a standard supermarket. From your £13.04 hourly rate to accessing the ADP portal, here is exactly how your Co-op payslip works.

Where is my Membership Dividend?
Because Co-op is a cooperative, your membership dividend is paid directly as credit to your Member Account. It is not processed through payroll and will not appear on your payslip.
20% Colleague Discount
Your 20% discount on Co-op branded goods is applied in-store. It is completely tax-free and does not affect your take-home pay calculation.

The Co-op Membership Dividend — Why It's Not on Your Payslip
This is the #1 confusion for new Co-op colleagues. Co-op is a cooperative, meaning it is owned by its members (including colleagues). When the Co-op distributes profits back to its members, you might receive a "Membership Dividend."
Your dividend is paid as credit directly to your Co-op Member account so you can spend it in-store. It is NOT processed as wages via payroll, so it will never appear on your payslip.
The 20% Colleague Discount — Is It Taxable?
As a Co-op colleague, you receive a generous 20% discount on Co-op own-brand products (and 10% on branded products).
Under HMRC rules for in-store discounts, this is completely tax-free. It is not classed as a "benefit in kind" (BIK), meaning you don't pay any tax on the savings, and it will not affect your payslip deductions.
Co-op Pension — Auto-Enrolment Details
Co-op auto-enrols eligible staff into a workplace pension. You contribute a minimum of 5% of your qualifying earnings, and Co-op contributes 3%. Like most retail pensions, this is calculated only on your "qualifying earnings" (meaning the first £6,240 you earn in a year is completely exempt from pension deductions).
How to Access Your Co-op Payslip (ADP Portal)
Co-op uses ADP for its payroll processing. You won't receive paper payslips in-store. Instead, you access them digitally:
- Log in via the internal Co-op colleague website or the ADP app.
- You will need your Employee ID (found on your name badge or welcome pack).
- Payslips are typically uploaded a day or two before payday. Some distribution roles are paid weekly, but most store colleagues are paid four-weekly or monthly.
Co-op vs Other Supermarkets — Pay Comparison 2026
How does Co-op's £13.04/hr stack up against the other major UK retailers in 2026? While Co-op isn't the absolute highest payer, its cooperative structure means profits are returned to members (including you) rather than corporate shareholders.
